Australia
We may be able to ship precious metals to Australia. The Australian
government/postal service prohibits valuables (see note below), but
an Australian customer explained it this way:.
In relation to postage to Australia, the government has 2 views (designed
with tax law in mind):
1. Is the bullion being imported for business (ie. is your primary intention
to be profitable from the transaction?)
2. Is the bullion being imported to satisfy a hobby?
Irrespective of one's requirement, the Australian government is unlikely
to seize or confiscate the bullion. Generally, the worst case scenario
is that the bullion will be held for the purposes of applying an additional
tax. However, on the basis one is importing bullion to satisfy a hobby,
tax is not an issue. A hobby is best justified through the purchase
of coins.
As part of the postage process, you are required to declare the contents
of a package. The simple means of importing bullion COINS/small bars
into Australia is to declare the contents as a "gift" as this
falls under the class of a hobby.
